The Solution

On Wednesday I talked about different types of acids, what they do, and which products containing these acids I'm currently enjoying. I've heard about salicylic acid for years now and have been curious as to how it would effect or improve my skin. Using the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion as a spot treatment gave me a little insight into what I might expect.

  1. Dry skin: the Drying Lotion is a spot treatment that is supposed to help clear breakouts, but since it's a highly concentrated formula of to target those breakouts it's also extremely drying.
  2. It works: while it's drying and has caused peeling/flaking skin for me, it works. For surface acne (AKA not cystic/under the skin), it helps to dry out out the oils an infection in the breakout and keep out new bacteria from getting onto the inflamed breakout.

But, I've recently stopped using the spot treatment as much because I've been focused on being kinder to my skin and not using ultra-drying or damaging products. However, Glossier launched their Solution (marketed as the solution for acne) in January, claiming 94% of trial-users said that it was the solution to their acne problems they'd been looking for. Extremely high expectations, and reservations because I've used lots of products that claim the same thing.

And on Wednesday night, my order of Solution arrived at my door. I was excited and ready to see some results or call the brand out on their bluffs. I have used it a total of 4 times, and I'm already blown away. With 5% salicylic acid, this formula has made all of the breakouts on my face flatten and disappear, and I can already see my pores clearing out and getting smaller. The test subjects used the product for four weeks, so I'm giving it until then to give my full opinion but so far I am really, really impressed. It is very strong, and the first time it burned. Glossier recommends using it once a day and working up if you need to/your skin can take it. However, it's not painful and I can already see results so the minor discomfort is worth it.

With AHAs (alpha hydroxy acid i.e. glycolic acid), BHAs (beta hydroxy acid i.e. the famous salicylic acid) and PHAs (poly hydroxy acids i.e. gluconolacctone) this is a super powerhouse of ingredients that hydrate, exfoliate, and resurface your skin to leave it smooth, blemish-free and glowing. For anyone skeptical like I was, Solution is really worth a try. Having only used it for four days, if it keeps working as well as it has, I can already tell I'll be repurchasing.

Side note, it comes with this amazing pump-top that helps dispense just the right amount of product, and helps me not accidentally more product on the counter like I do with other toners.
